After two recommendations from my sister-in-laws to read this I asked Nate to check it out from the library for me. I was so surprised when I opened it up and the first page was a letter, and the next page and the next. I had NO idea that the entire book was comprised of letters back and forth from people. I almost put the book down in defeat "I will never like this" but decided to move forward since the SIL's had both enjoyed it so much. Not only was the book created differently but it was based on life directly following WWII on an island near England. Again, not exactly my cup of tea. However, I found myself loving the relationships and stories that were created by simply reading letters. The book itself had a real Pride and Prejudice feel (starring Elizabeth Bennett and several possible Mr. Darcy's) and I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone that enjoyed that storyline or someone that needs to branch out in their reading!
FYI: You can read the first chapter of Emily Giffin's latest book, Heart of the Matter, due in May right here. I can't wait to get my hands on it...if you haven't read her books before I suggest you check them out today! She's an easy read but I've loved her since I first read Something Borrowed in 2005ish and haven't stopped since...

I loved this book! I didn't know how I'd like the whole "letter format" but it ended up being a great read! Oh and I can't believe the coupon thief!!!! How rude! You'll have to post some of your great coupon finds sometime!
Hey Elizabeth...just poking around on your blog and catching up. :) I LOVED this book too. I also started out warily because of the letters. I got to meet and visit with the author (Annie Barrows; there are two authors because her aunt started the book then fell ill.) And she was great--charming and funny, not entirely unlike the main character in Guernsey...
Glad to see you're doing well out in NC and that you managed to make a Christmas cookie or two. :)
Megan.
