Student: Happy RELATED Birthday!!!!
Me: Well thank you!
Student #2: What does that mean?
Student: (rolls eyes and stares at peer like she's a foolio.) It MEANS that we didn't see her on her REAL birthday so the ONLY way we can say happy birthday NOW is to say Happy RELATED Birthday.
Student #2: What does related mean though?
Student: Ugh. It means I'm sorry I missed your birthday so I'm saying it now.
Student #2: Oh. Happy Related Birthday, Mrs. H.
Me: Thank you very much.
